Zagori
In the “heart” of Epirus, in an area of approximately 1000 square kilometers, “hidden” are the Zagorochoria, 46 small picturesque villages built of stone on the slopes of the mountains amphitheatrically. The region of Zagori is an area of rare natural beauty, with impressive geology. The area includes two National Parks with beautiful unspoilt forests, impressive breathtaking gorges, rivers, lakes and waterfalls as well as rich fauna and flora. Characteristic of the region of Zagori is the architecture of the settlements, paths and arched stone bridges. About 100 stone bridges that connected the villages of Zagori to each other and to the rest of the world are preserved in the area today. Zagori is currently “a candidate” for registration in the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as the country’s first Cultural Landscape.
